more voices…

The voice of the Lord is always gentle, loving, kind… it is never demanding, never warning us of dire consequences if we don’t jump and jump right now… never angry, condemning, nasty, putting us down, laying a guilt trip on us… never…. never anything like that.

I will never forget the night when I was awakened by what I once again thought  was the voice of God.  “You need to rise and save your family. A terrible thing is about to befall them.  Hurry.”   I jumped in my car and drove 45 min to where my kids were living.  There seemed no issues at all.  Everything there was quiet.  “I don’t see any problem here, Lord”  The voice responds… “Are they your only family?“…

Off I roar to my parents house… another 45 min drive… same scenario… same question… and same response.  Then the gentle voice comes… “That is not my voice…”

I drove back home.  I lost quite a bit of sleep.  I learned a very important lesson… about voices.

One of my favorite scriptures is:

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of real value… if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.”

I believe this is a description of Jesus… I just let my mind dwell on Him.  That is what He is like.  That is what His voice sounds like…. always.

  1. Wow that first paragraph could have been from from yesterday’s sermon at my church. Guess the Lord is wanting to draw me to a deeper experience of how his love swamps out judgment & condemnation !
