What if the goal was to simply let God be God…. you know… where I just enter into that incredible place of peace and rest… that place where I cease from my work and let Him do all the work? Hmmmmm.
His rest… where He finally gets me to stop doing things…. that place where I have no ambitions… no agenda... nothing to accomplish… no meetings to go to… no church to join… nothing... just that simple place of rest where He does whatever He wants to do…
Here is an analogy… something to think about. I was musing about running a Marathon… I ran a half dozen of them back in the 80’s…. and Paul talks about “running the race” … “finishing the race…” ... “not getting disqualified from the race” … I saw an issue… we changed the goal… My goal in running a marathon is to run the race and finish the marathon… my goal is not to qualify and get my bib number…. my goal is to finish the race…
The goal is not to qualify for the race so I can show off my bib number .. and then spend the rest of my life telling others that the most important thing in the whole world is to accept their qualifier in order to get their very own bib number…. Yet, that’s what I did… I was “qualified” by Jesus death on the cross… so I got my bib number to get me into heaven… and acted as if that was the goal…
Just run the race philip…… train… get in shape…. grow up and mature… so philip can finish the race…God has a plan and purpose for each day… He includes me in that in whatever way He wants…… that is His focus… all I have to do is follow Him… each day… then focus on what He puts on my plate each day. His focus is not my getting to heaven … I’m qualified… I have my bib number… His focus is for me to enter into His rest… follow Him…. and let Him be God.
