What I said a few days ago about paraphrasing… that kind of thing drives religious people crazy… “you simply cannot alter the words of the bible”… of course… in that process they also tell you what those words really, really mean…. oh well… I used to live there myself… albeit many years back. 🙂
Lot more I would love to say about those religious folks saying the bible was written by God Himself…. like it was some kind of spirit takeover of the writer and maybe an automatic handwriting kind of thingy? Now that would make Philip nervous… 🙂 Maybe I’ll say more next time…. something else on my heart right now…
Luke’s paraphrase is what’s rolling around in there at the moment … I had spent a lot of time talking about all the things that Luke records that Jesus was reading from Isaiah…. I went over all of them, one by one, day after day after day…. 🙂 but… here is the list from Isaiah…. and the part that Luke left out….
1The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, for the display of his splendor.
